As pellet volumes increase, buying nations and the regulators within those buying nations are concerned with sustaining forestlands. The Sustainable Biomass Partnership is an industry-led initiative, formed in 2013 by major European utilities that use biomass, mostly in the form of wood pellets, in large thermal power plants. It was formed to help ensure the feedstock used to create this fuel is acquired sustainably. The vision of the partnership is for an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable solid biomass supply chain to contribute to a low-carbon economy. The SBP has been developed as a certification framework to provide assurance that woody biomass is sourced from legal and sustainable sources, allowing companies in the biomass sector to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements. Hear from one of the major founding members of the SBP, an approved North American certification body applicant progressing towards achieving SBP-approved status, one of two certification bodies SBP-approved and the SBP itself.

During the webinar, receive an update on the current status of the framework and its journey to where it’s at today, find out what it takes to become certified, including how to perform an SBP audit, how the SBP works with other certification schemes, and the considerations made and the requirements that helped lead to its formation.
